Beyond the Storm

I smell lingering freshwater from the rain that once drenched my head. I can hear the distant thunder rumbling as the wind gently pushes the storm to a new destination. It is headed to some other unfortunate soul, and I can only be glad that it no longer tortures me. The only unsettling thing is that I still see no sign of the clouds letting up, and they are as dark as ever now and even darker in the distance- a sign that my destiny remains unknown, and I still may have to face great perils and dangers on my quest to find my purpose.

The wind is blowing leaves all about, shaking trees and vines- howling tauntingly at me. To try to resist nature would certainly be the end of me. So I go on, trying to ride the rampant flow of time. What else can I do? I have tried to fight for greater things, yet I only ended up worse in the long run. It is almost like I’m not in control of my own life, like there is some higher being dwelling over me and making sure that nothing goes the right way.

All I can do is go along with this infernal plan that has been made out for me, and look for a sign of truth that things will get better. Everything is shifting shapes and turning out to be something different that what I originally thought it to be. I don’t know what to believe in anymore. The only other option would be to give up, and I’ve already tried that before- to no avail.

It’s hard to be strong in this world – this rotting wasteland that is corrupting more and more every day – where there are fewer heroes and numerous thieves and murderers. Hope fades as a dark aura shifts and grows across the world like an ending sunset- marking the dawn of something truly wicked. Look around you now, the clouds are twirling and red. Ah, the storm is not gone at all. It has just begun.

What I thought was a storm before was just a precursor to the real thing. Hellish and looming, the inferno is destroying all in sight and seems to be expanding outward in every direction. I cannot run away anymore. If this is meant to be the end, then so be it. I will fight until every last breath has left my lungs, until all of my blood has been spilled, even until my body is used to the point beyond repair.

I must survive where I can seek the answers to finding the path of greatness and happiness, where I can finally have a true purpose, and where I can teach others that they can also fight for a worthy cause- to never give up and to always believe. That is a cause well worthy of fighting for, and if I die, I would not have it any other way than doing it fighting for the only thing I have left, the only thing that keeps me alive – hope.

Water

In traditional Chinese philosophy, Water is classified as one of the Wu xing (Chinese: pinyin: wǔxíng), or the Five Elements, also translated as five phases, five movements or five steps, by which all natural phenomena can be explained. The system of five elements was used for describing interactions and relationships between phenomena. It was employed in many fields of early Chinese thought, including seemingly disparate fields such as geomancy and Feng shui, astrology, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese alchemy, music, military strategy and martial arts. The original foundation for the idea is based on the concept of the Five Cardinal Points.

I believe it is important to understand the early beliefs the ancient people to truly appreciate what we have. While you may not believe in Chinese philosophy, it does include some important things. For example: Water can be fluid and weak, but can also wield great power when it floods and overwhelms the land. Something that seems weak can hold untold power within. Perhaps it’s hinting on something: don’t be quick to judge, and don’t abuse what you have. I don’t know what your view on global warming is, but with all of the statistics of the pollution and the warming seas, it doesn’t look great. Why? -Because we abuse the natural resources that we have.

Have you ever listened to the waves gently crashing on the shore? (If not, it sounds like *Pshhhhhhhh*) Ok, off track, sorry. Anyways, the sound of the waves crashing is usually correlated with a calming sense. The negative emotion is fear. The massive body of water that gives you that calming sensation can also ruin lives and cause mass destruction. While it’s a morbid thought, it is very true. Instead of worrying about it, do something that improves the condition of the water around you. Help de-pollute rivers, steams, and oceans.

While you can’t ultimately stop monsoons and hurricanes, do not have what I call the “not-enough mentality“. “I’m only one person; there is no way I could help.” Those are the kinds of thoughts that degrade our society.

Get out there and do something, others are bound to follow, and if not, what could you possibly be hurting?

Turn Around the Negative Self-Talk

Turn Around the Negative Self-Talk

From Wendy Bumgardner,

Do you find yourself putting yourself down? “I can’t finish this workout.” “I can’t lose weight.” “I’ll just come in last place again.”

This destructive habit is often a self-fulfilling prophecy – we talk ourselves out of improving our performance or maintaining good new habits. We talk ourselves into just giving up.

Failing Again and Again

Many of us have failed time and time again, especially with diets and healthy eating habits. And so when you once again make a resolution to eat healthier, you carry the guilt and frustration of those failures. You start off not really believing you will succeed. Any little slip up leads you to criticize yourself and reinforce that you will just fail again.

Self-Talk

Monitor your self-talk. What are you saying to yourself when you have a setback? If you skip a workout do you tell yourself you are a lazy slug? If you give in to a big portion of your favorite treat, do you tell yourself that you will always be fat and will never stick to a healthy diet?

Analyze Why You Went Wrong

Instead of criticizing yourself when you slip up, sit down for reflection. How many times in the past few days have you done it right? What feelings did you have that led you to go off course this time? What could you have done differently to address those feelings? Were you feeling deprived of treats and so you gave into the big piece of cake? Could you have asked for a half-size piece of cake, or taken a bite and then passed the plate around to your friends? If you skipped a workout because you were pressed for time, was there a time when you could have gotten in five minutes of stretching or a quick walk or jog so you weren’t completely inactive?

Positive Self-Talk

Once you’ve analyzed the reasons and come up with a course of action that would have kept you more on course, now talk to yourself in a positive way. “That cake was delicious. Next time I’ll savor a couple of bites rather than taking a big piece.” “I needed some breathing space in my schedule and so I missed the workout. I’ll bring a resistance band to work so I can get in some exercises while on hold on the phone.”

Practice, Practice, Practice

The more you catch yourself in negative self-talk and stop to analyze why you are criticizing yourself, the more you can redirect yourself to positive action. Eventually, you may begin congratulating yourself on doing the right thing rather than criticizing yourself for doing the wrong thing. Negative feelings and negative talk won’t cease completely, but if you use them as opportunities to analyze why things went wrong and to focus on positive actions, you will turn them into tools for improvement.

Fake It To Make It

Beyond negative self-talk, I give myself positive self-talk even when it’s not quite true. I tell myself throughout a tough workout that I love it and it is good for me, even as I want to quit. At the end I tell myself it felt great, even as I drag myself back to the locker room. At the end of a long training walk, even with new blisters on my feet, I tell myself it felt great to have made it that far. Rather than thinking that I must be aging or will never get more fit, I am thinking that I am somebody who loves the training and will challenge myself till I achieve new levels of fitness.

Harmony of the Worlds

“Harmonices Mundi (Latin: The Harmony of the Worlds, 1619) is a book by Johannes Kepler. In the work Kepler investigates harmony and congruence in geometrical forms and physical phenomena. The final section of the work relates his discovery of the so-called “Third Law” of planetary motion.

Kepler divides The Harmony of the World into five long chapters: the first is on regular polygons; the second is on the congruence of figures; the third is on the origin of harmonic proportions in music; the fourth on is on harmonic configurations in astrology; and the fifth on the harmony of the motions of the planets.

While medieval philosophers spoke metaphorically of the “music of the spheres,” Kepler discovered actual, albeit silent, harmonies in planetary motion. He found that the difference between the maximum and minimum angular speeds of planet on its orbit approximates a harmonic proportion. For instance, the maximum angular speed of the Earth as measured from the Sun varies by a semitone (a ratio of 16:15), from mi to fa, between aphelion and perihelion. Venus only varies by a tiny 25:24 interval (called a diesis in musical terms). Kepler explains the reason for the Earth’s small harmonic range:

The Earth sings Mi, Fa, Mi: you may infer even from the syllables that in this our home misery and famine hold sway.

At very rare intervals all of the planets would sing together in ‘perfect concord’: Kepler proposed that this may have happened only once in history, perhaps at the time of creation.”

On the exact second that we were born, the planets were aligned in such a way that they can never, in our lifetime, be aligned exactly that way again. With this alignment, on your exact moment of birth, there was a sort of “harmony of planets-” A “song” made just for you. It is almost like the song that defines your soul- an imprint that truly separates you from anyone else. Unfortunately, Kepler never went as far as to look beyond the rotation and orbits of a planet too see what tones a specific time period would create, but rationally it would take several lifetimes to do so. Still, his research has brought forth an amazing mixture of planets and sounds. It is beautiful to think that everyone on the Earth is bound to the planets and stars harmoniously. Maybe one day we’ll be able to listen to our own “Harmony of the Worlds.”

Ahead of the Unknown

I’m not going to dwell on things I don’t know anymore. No one knows when this all ends and no one knows the ultimate root of happiness. I’m going beyond that and striving to be the best I can be, have the patience to be happy and make others happy. I’m going to make a difference and encourage others to do so. I have faith in these things, because for once in my life I believe in myself, and I believe in us as a whole. Without this trust we are surely doomed. Even if it means that we turn out worse in the long run, as long as we achieve a step towards greatness, maybe a footprint, or a mark in time itself. If we don’t achieve any of this we are inclined to wither away, as many have, remembered by none, like an insolent speck of dust, joining with others- hazing the vision of a better life and a just society.

We must see beyond the haze.

We will see the light with our own eyes.

And it will shine bright, as bright as the heavens — a vision of hope to all who sees — and they will know:

There is greatness in this world. Let it unfold.

A Message to the Lost

To the lost: do not worry.

The silence will soon be repressed by something truly amazing.

You will hear a voice.

A sound will echo through your mind and alter what you think is reality. Panicked souls will be crammed in a crowded, unknown and dark place. The foolish will scream and bicker of how they should be treated differently than everyone else, as the wise stand in a placid gaze towards the sky- or what was the sky.

Observance is key. See how your world is changing around you, and change among and amidst- Like a chameleon changing to mock its background. After all, that’s all we instinctively do: Avoid danger.

Play the songs that compel you to run.

Remember the thoughts that drive you beyond the natural.

Look at the photos of loved ones and hope to see them again.

Keep your gaze short, however, as time is not on your side.

…And remember: be rational. Running is good as long as it’s in the right direction. When the time is right, listen to your heart.

That essential moment where everything clicks like a firing gun- It ultimately decides your fate. You only have one chance to dodge the bullet. The time has come to make things right. You hold the key to escape from torment. You can find what you are looking for.

Do not fear, for fear is your greatest enemy. Open your hand and look at your palm. There, envision everything you’ve ever wanted; now close your hand into a fist- gripping your dreams close to your heart; and with that hand, you can make dreams your reality.
