At Last

Douse the flame in my heart

I’ll heat it right back up

But you can do it yourself

With only the blink of your eyes

Unknowing and clever, I see you

But never know what you hide

I’ll still follow your eyes

I’ll ride against the wind

I’ll play the game and take the fall

Tarnish the burning of my love

Crush the dreams of my future

The big fish eats the little one

It’s okay now, I won’t worry

I’m by your side through it all

Cause I can’t stand to stay cold

I won’t stand to be alone

In this depressing, cruel world

It’s time to take away the atrophy

Time to take away my mistakes

Where I can finally take the step towards

Compassion, love, dreams, and hope

So that one day when the light breaks

The uneasy and shady clouds in my mind

I may be, at last

Genuinely and truly

Tearless and passionately

Happy

Flow

My paranoid aura is beginning to fade beyond my calming yet manic eyes- as I divulge into worlds unknown, tearing apart my world from above, analyzing my flaws and faults upon a melancholy backdrop of sky and ocean. The stars shine and glimmer about, flashing through unknown waters- below the vast seas I travel, wanting to feel the radiance of the sun, wanting to hear more than silence, wanting to forget my ghostly past, just wanting- just flowing in a monsoon of thoughts and worries- going with the flow.

No one tells you that the flow isn’t actually a flow at all. It’s a blowing, ferocious storm, and it is a part of you. Once you decide to let it control you, it will certainly do so. The earth is beautiful, but society is not. Take people off of the earth, and you have a living, growing – thriving world – a world that shines, smiles, and rebounds from its own storms. You put people on those shores, and let them fight against the wind and rain, against storms and hurricanes, and you are eventually left with chaos.

However, it’s not the people’s fault that they live where they do when these horrid things happen. It’s just life. It’s unforgiving, it’s cruel; it’s life – just life. We make life choices that change how we live, where we live, what we have- usually not what others have, and that is one of our greatest flaws. It’s all about us, not about anyone else. We close our eyes and turn away from the truth that some unfortunate people have to face. We refuse to volunteer our time and money to help something or someone that is in a less-than-fortunate situation. Why? It doesn’t benefit our income, our way of life, or our possessions.

Luckily, some people do see the truth- the truth that it’s not about what we have, it’s about what all of us have, and until we agree to come together- to fight, breath, and live as one, then we fail to improve our morality and our purity, and continue to dive into the realm of poverty and economic and global stress. Since we choose to live on this earth, shouldn’t we do something to help, just one little thing- just something?

My eyes close as I end writing that thought, still thinking, still flowing. Although hard, I’m trying to make as much sense of this world as I can. The world is so beautiful in a lot of ways, but so horrible in others. It’s just life, but hopefully the beauty will have its day to shine above the darkness that lies within. Perhaps the good will defeat the evil completely. Until then, I live on in a motionless torment, below the sky and sea, yet above everything. One day I’ll walk on a beach of pure white and sun- when the fight is fought and when the fight is won, or lost- depending on which side you’re on.

Regardless, it’s always darkest before the dawn, and the dawn sprouts life and warmth, which will heal us all, and perhaps bring us together for good. But, who knows, everything is chance, and in a world of chance, it’s hard to find motivation to live. That’s just my opinion, but I am optimistic that things will change for the good, and I’ll find my place somewhere in the world one day, once I’m out of this unforgiving flow. Time is the only thing that can heal us, yet it’s also the only thing that can kill us.

Time is almost as unforgiving as the flow of life, but it’s the only thing that you can count on to be there, when everything else stops, when your heart skips a beat, time still moves on, and it’ll bring you where you’re supposed to be. So just live for yourself, live for others, live for improvement, just live. Everything will figure itself out in the end. When the storm is over, you’ll land where you belong.

Leaders Step up for Cyclone Victims

The people of Myanmar are still waiting to receive humanitarian aid.

Another week has passed. More opportunities are lost in providing immediate assistance to the people of Myanmar. While innocent people try to piece their lives back together after the devastation caused by Cyclone Nargis, Myanmar authorities continue to obstruct aid. The lives and health of thousands are at risk.

Put pressure on Myanmar authorities to distribute humanitarian aid to victims of Cyclone Nargis.

Myanmar may believe that it does not need to be responsive to its own people; however it does have to answer to the fellow member states of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Under the ASEAN Charter, member states, including Myanmar, are committed to:

  • Respecting fundamental freedoms
  • Promoting and protecting human rights and social justice
  • Upholding the United Nations Charter and international law

Myanmar’s actions to obstruct aid from reaching people desperately in need are in violation of the spirit of ASEAN’s work. It is time for the ASEAN member states to step up and show leadership in assisting the people of Myanmar. Call on ASEAN to urge the government of Myanmar to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of Cyclone Nargis.

Irene Khan, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, recently wrote an open letter to ASEAN(PDF). In it, she warns that “without immediate action by ASEAN leaders, the humanitarian disaster created by Cyclone Nargis and the deliberate obstruction to aid by the Myanmar authorities will result in further massive human rights violations, putting at risk the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of people.”

A natural disaster destroyed the lives of many innocent people. A humanitarian disaster shouldn’t be the reason they continue to suffer. Call on ASEAN to urge Myanmar authorities to ensure that cyclone victims receive aid.

Thank you for your time!

Beyond the Storm

I smell lingering freshwater from the rain that once drenched my head. I can hear the distant thunder rumbling as the wind gently pushes the storm to a new destination. It is headed to some other unfortunate soul, and I can only be glad that it no longer tortures me. The only unsettling thing is that I still see no sign of the clouds letting up, and they are as dark as ever now and even darker in the distance- a sign that my destiny remains unknown, and I still may have to face great perils and dangers on my quest to find my purpose.

The wind is blowing leaves all about, shaking trees and vines- howling tauntingly at me. To try to resist nature would certainly be the end of me. So I go on, trying to ride the rampant flow of time. What else can I do? I have tried to fight for greater things, yet I only ended up worse in the long run. It is almost like I’m not in control of my own life, like there is some higher being dwelling over me and making sure that nothing goes the right way.

All I can do is go along with this infernal plan that has been made out for me, and look for a sign of truth that things will get better. Everything is shifting shapes and turning out to be something different that what I originally thought it to be. I don’t know what to believe in anymore. The only other option would be to give up, and I’ve already tried that before- to no avail.

It’s hard to be strong in this world – this rotting wasteland that is corrupting more and more every day – where there are fewer heroes and numerous thieves and murderers. Hope fades as a dark aura shifts and grows across the world like an ending sunset- marking the dawn of something truly wicked. Look around you now, the clouds are twirling and red. Ah, the storm is not gone at all. It has just begun.

What I thought was a storm before was just a precursor to the real thing. Hellish and looming, the inferno is destroying all in sight and seems to be expanding outward in every direction. I cannot run away anymore. If this is meant to be the end, then so be it. I will fight until every last breath has left my lungs, until all of my blood has been spilled, even until my body is used to the point beyond repair.

I must survive where I can seek the answers to finding the path of greatness and happiness, where I can finally have a true purpose, and where I can teach others that they can also fight for a worthy cause- to never give up and to always believe. That is a cause well worthy of fighting for, and if I die, I would not have it any other way than doing it fighting for the only thing I have left, the only thing that keeps me alive – hope.

Warm

Sunbeams from deceitful clouds

Won’t you venture towards the light?

With bloodshot eyes and raging desire

Like a phantom soul longing for the sunrise

You’ll slip and fall before the radiance

Of an illusionary sunray

As the clouds darken and wither

Upon your desire, your hope, your dreams

Say goodbye to the light, it’s time to go

Full throttle into the unknown

Nothing is as it seems, just leave

Swiftly dive into the abyss

Your tears will follow

Why can’t things be perfect?

All in time, you’ll realize

Sometimes you just have to let go

This is the end of running away

This is the end of keeping it in

Turn and face the truth

As you lower your head and frown upon

Everything you’ve counted on

As hope falls and breaks like a fragile jewel

No, just run, get away!

The pieces will never fit

Run back into the flame

You won’t be cold anymore

You’ll be all warm

It’s what you’ve always wanted

A Message to the Lost

To the lost: do not worry.

The silence will soon be repressed by something truly amazing.

You will hear a voice.

A sound will echo through your mind and alter what you think is reality. Panicked souls will be crammed in a crowded, unknown and dark place. The foolish will scream and bicker of how they should be treated differently than everyone else, as the wise stand in a placid gaze towards the sky- or what was the sky.

Observance is key. See how your world is changing around you, and change among and amidst- Like a chameleon changing to mock its background. After all, that’s all we instinctively do: Avoid danger.

Play the songs that compel you to run.

Remember the thoughts that drive you beyond the natural.

Look at the photos of loved ones and hope to see them again.

Keep your gaze short, however, as time is not on your side.

…And remember: be rational. Running is good as long as it’s in the right direction. When the time is right, listen to your heart.

That essential moment where everything clicks like a firing gun- It ultimately decides your fate. You only have one chance to dodge the bullet. The time has come to make things right. You hold the key to escape from torment. You can find what you are looking for.

Do not fear, for fear is your greatest enemy. Open your hand and look at your palm. There, envision everything you’ve ever wanted; now close your hand into a fist- gripping your dreams close to your heart; and with that hand, you can make dreams your reality.
